In many homes throughout the valley, turning off water to your home is a simple procedure.  Most newer homes are equipped with ball valves, which are easy to turn on and off.  However, some older homes have what are called "gate" valves.  This type of valve can usually be easily turned off, but may not come on again without the help of a plumber.
